Blue Light Therapy Acne

Blue light therapy for acne uses blue wavelengths of light to kill P. acnes bacteria, which are a major cause of breakouts. It is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for mild to moderate acne that can reduce inflammation, decrease oil production, and improve overall skin tone. The treatment is often administered in a series of sessions, with results improving over time. 

• Targets bacteria: Blue light, specifically in the 405-420 nm range, penetrates the skin and reaches the sebaceous glands.
• Activates porphyrins: The P. acnes bacteria produce molecules called porphyrins, which are activated by blue light.
• Destroys bacteria: This activation creates free radicals that destroy the bacteria, helping to reduce breakouts.
• Reduces oil and inflammation: Blue light therapy can also reduce oil gland activity and has anti-inflammatory benefits, which helps with redness.
